This year's meeting will be held at the Tawa Bowling Club on Thursday June 26th, from 10.00am to 12 noon, and morning tea will be provided.
Our speaker this time is Dr Maree Todd, Chair of the HOPE Foundation Research on Ageing, who is a Geriatrician (Medical Specialist on Ageing), President of the NZ Division of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Geriatric Medicine, acts in a governance/advisory role for BUPA and worked at Auckland Hospital from 1991 until the end of 2023. She will speak about ageing, and improvement and maintenance of wellbeing. The things required to age well are also the things that reduce the risk of dementia so she will use that as a framework. She will endeavour to provide tips to survive the health system and get the most out of it, and will also give tips on improving this for the younger generations in our families – she says it is never too early to start to age well!
There will also be information about new courses in Semester 2, and several of the current course leaders will speak about their courses.
Please come along - this is a great opportunity to hear about some interesting courses and activities, and also to catch up with old friends or make some new ones.
See you there!
Tawa U3A is part of an international organisation for people who are no longer in fulltime employment to share creative, cultural, physical and leisure interests.
We organise interest groups in many areas such as art, music, crafts, games and a range of physical activities.
There are discussion groups where you can express your point of view, and sometimes listen to a speaker.
We cooperate with other U3A groups and share sessions.
In total, we offer more than 40 learning and social opportunities at minimal cost.
You are certain to find some activities that are of interest to you.
We have a reciprocal agreement with Porirua U3A which allows our members free access to each others' courses and activities.
This is version 5 submitted.
The following is helpful information about the process.
Why do we have to fuss about a constitution?
There has been an international problem about people setting up false community groups, sometimes charities, sometimes community groups, through which they have laundered money made from drug selling etc.
So to prevent this they have passed a law in 2022 which demanded certain ways of behaving in an incorporated society to prevent such dubious uses.
A government department, MBIE, (I am not sure what the initials stand for) designed a online tool to help us write our constitution.
A .pdf version 5 is available on the Newsletters page.
A .doc version is available by clicking Constitution below.
